Shishi Wu

Dr. Shishi Wu is currently a postdoctoral fellow in implementation science at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Having expertise in both qualitative and quantitative methods, she is specialized in health policies and systems research to enhance evidence-based decisions-making and improve infectious disease control. Shishi has worked closely with international donors, frontline healthcare providers, and national disease control officials in China, Singapore, and United States, providing evidence from research and program evaluation to inform clinical and policy decisions on COVID-19 and tuberculosis control. Now she is working under the supervision of Prof. Xiaolin Wei to develop new projects on implementation science and COVID-19.  

Stefan Litvinjenko

Stefan Litvinjenko is currently working as a consultant on behalf of the WHO to complete a review on TB and vulnerable populations. His primary interests are in epidemic intelligence and infectious disease surveillance. He has experience in industry monitoring situational developments in the COVID-19 pandemic through event-based surveillance, and is a previous WHO EURO intern in tuberculosis monitoring and evaluation. He has also worked in Quality Improvement on the wards in the health care sector. Stefan is an epidemiologist by training, and holds an MPH with Global Health Emphasis from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

Olivia Magwood

Olivia Magwood is a population health researcher with a focus on systematic review methodology, refugee & migrant health, global mental health, multi-stakeholder engagement and health equity. Highly skilled in evidence-based methods including systematic reviews and GRADE clinical guideline development to inform policy and practice. Proven track record of scientific publications and strong editorial and communication skills to support organizations such as the Migration, Health, Development, and Research Initiative (MHADRI) and the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA).

Victoria Haldane

Victoria Haldane (MPH) is currently a PhD candidate in Health Services Research at the Institute of Health, Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. Her dissertation work, funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Doctoral Award (CGS-D), is a mixed methods process evaluation of an eHealth intervention to support persons living with tuberculosis adhere to their medications in Tibet, China. She is also a University of Toronto Global Scholar with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and a UTAA Graduate Scholar. She holds a Masters in Public Health from Chinese University of Hong Kong and previously worked at National University of Singapore and Duke NUS Medical School. Her research interests include implementation science, program evaluation for complex interventions, equitable access to care, health systems resilience and making our health systems better for people and the planet.

Quanfang Dong

Quanfang (Tiffany) Dong is a PhD student in Health Services Research at the Institute of Health, Policy, Management and Evaluation, at the University of Toronto. Her dissertation work is currently on understanding adherence to tuberculosis treatment from an economic perspective. She worked as a research coordinator in national and provincial projects focusing on health policy, health services delivery, health insurance, and healthy aging strategy. She also designed and led a national college students innovation training project on healthcare delivery for older adults living in rural areas in China. Her research interests include health inequity, community health, and health outcome evaluation from economic perspective to keep equilibrium for both healthcare providers, communities, and individuals.

Qi Zhang

Qi (Tim) Zhang, is currently a PhD candidate in Health Economics at the Institute of Health, Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. His dissertation work is on the economics of physician behavior. He holds a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include applied microeconomics, applied econometrics, and healthcare finance.

Wenjuan Tao

Wenjuan Tao is a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto (starting June 2024). She concurrently serves as a postdoctoral fellow and assistant researcher at West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Her research focuses on health services and policy research, primary care, health management, and implementation science. Currently, under the joint supervision of Prof. Xiaolin Wei (University of Toronto) and Prof. Weimin Li (Sichuan University), she is investigating interventions to promote lung cancer screening implementation.

Qingyu Wang

Qingyu Wang, a Ph.D. candidate at the West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University, is currently a visiting Ph.D. student at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her research focuses on healthcare-seeking behavior, medical service prices, and the evaluation of related health service pricing policies from a value-based care perspective.

Amily Liang

Amily is an undergraduate student studying Health Sciences at McMaster University. She aims to pursue a career in healthcare, and she is especially interested in health implementation and equity. She is currently assisting in the development and maintenance of the GISL website.

Jerome Song

Jerome is an undergraduate student majoring in Public Health Science at the University of California, Irvine, pursuing a medical career with an interest in public health and administration. He is currently assisting in the development and maintenance of the GISL website.

Rameesha Rehmani

Rameesha is currently in her last year of undergraduate studies at University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). Rameesha hopes to pursue her graduate studies in Health Policy and Health Systems Research at University of Toronto. With a background in nursing and strong foundation in healthcare, Rameesha is hopeful to make an impact in healthcare. Her journey as a nurse has cultivated a keen awareness of the challenges within the healthcare system, sparking a desire to contribute to positive change on a broader scale. She is currently working as a clinical research assistant at UHN in a stroke department where she screens and administers a study on post-stroke patients. As a research assistant, she has been actively involved in the Global Science Implementation Lab assisting a study on improving AMR interventions in low- and middle-income countries. Her research interests include health systems research, health policy evaluation, quality improvement and patient safety.

Renz Andrew Rafal

Renz Andrew Rafal is currently a Research Assistant at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.  He recently graduated from his Honours Bachelor of Science Program with Distinction from the University of Toronto, completing a double major in Global Health & Health Studies and a minor in Psychology.  He joined the Global Implementation Science Lab in January 2023 and assisted with the qualitative research study involving the exploration of contextual factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine delivery in the Philippines.  With special interests in both mental health education and global health research in marginalized communities, his holistic undergraduate training in the Life Sciences stream, has given him diverse skills in applying and integrating multiple health system frameworks to analyze complex problems in both his study and research projects.  His expertise is in qualitative analysis in which he utilizes a biopsychosocial approach that provides an enhanced perspective in local and global public health settings through the understanding of the determinants of health and disease.  Renz is currently working on the Philippines project evaluating the effectiveness of an educational toolkit in improving vaccination confidence among poor communities in the Philippines under the supervision of Prof. Xiaolin Wei and Dr. Shishi Wu.

Bryan Gascon

Bryan is a 3rd year student in the dual doctoral MD-PhD program in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Prior to the MD-PhD program, Bryan completed an undergraduate (BSc) in global health and master’s (MSc) degree in cancer psychiatry research at the University of Toronto. As one of 8 MD-PhD students in his cohort, Bryan is pursuing his PhD in global child health research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation and aims to formulate health system solutions for children in low- and middle-income settings.

Shiliang Ge

Shiliang (Sarah) Ge is currently a 4th year medical student at the University of Toronto with an interest in internal medicine. She completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours at McMaster University with a specialization in Global Health. She is a recipient of the International Health CREMS scholarship and led previous research initiatives in rural Kenya to establish a community health worker training program for non-communicable diseases. She has also been actively involved with the Global Implementation Science Lab through training and guideline development for the COVID-19 pandemic in LMICs and collaborated in an international team on a mixed methods process evaluation of an eHealth intervention to support medication adherence in persons living with tuberculosis in Tibet, China. She is passionate about global health research and understanding treating the individual within the context of the larger population.

Madinakhon Sulaymonova

Madinakhon (Madina) Sulaymonova is a Master of Public Health (MPH) Student in the field of Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto (2023-2025). Currently, she is under the guidance of Dr. Erjia Ge, working as a Student Research Assistant to assess the impacts of greenspace on various health outcomes at a national scale. She attended McMaster University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Honours Environmental Sciences Co-op and was accredited as a Certified GIS Professional (GISP). Her main research interests include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial epidemiology, infectious disease, data analysis, and environmental health surveillance. 

Jiaqi Chen

Jiaqi (Jackie) Chen is currently an MSc student in Health Systems Research at the Institute of Health, Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. He holds degrees in Applied Mathematics and Epidemiology & Health Statistics. Under the guidance of Prof. Xiaolin Wei and Dr. Erjia Ge, Jiaqi is currently engaged in a research project exploring comparative air pollution indicators.  His research interests include health policy evaluation, real-world data studies, and spatial epidemiology.

Betty Li

Betty Li is a Master of Science student in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto. She completed her Honours Bachelor of Science in pharmacology from the University of Toronto. At the Global Implementation Science Lab, she is involved in several projects regarding treatment adherence in tuberculosis patients, vulnerable populations for tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance. Her research interests include population health, clinical pharmacology, and precision medicine.

Zihan Xiong

Zihan Xiong is a fourth-year student at University of Toronto majoring in Physiology and Immunology. Her research interests are chronic disease prevention in LMIC and global epidemiology. She worked as an intern to investigate the Chinese government’s public health financial budget during COVID-19 and early ovarian cancer detection rate in low-income areas in China. She is also interested in global micronutrient deficiencies among children. Zihan is currently working on the Antimicrobial Resistance Project under the supervision of Prof. Xiaolin Wei and Dr. Shishi Wu. 

Xueru Duan

Xueru Duan, a Ph. D. candidate at Sun Yat-sen University, is currently a visiting student in Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her research focuses on sleep health, especially obstructive sleep apnea. She is currently under the guidance of Prof. Erjia Ge to enhance her professional knowledge in spatial epidemiology and geospatial analysis for public health data.

Jing Zhou

Jing Zhou is a visiting student in Dalla Lana School of Public Health at University of Toronto and also a doctoral student majoring in Social Medicine and Health Service Management in West China School of Public Health at Sichuan University in China. she holds a master’s degree in pharmacy and a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical preparation. Pharmacoeconomics and health technology assessment are her research interests. She is passionate about the pharmaceutical market and the assessment of anti-cancer drugs as well as orphan drugs. Currently, her research is supported by China Scholarship Council. 

Tiange Xu

Tiange Xu, a Ph. D. candidate at Xi’an Jiaotong University, is a visiting student in implementation science at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her research focuses on primary health care, especially in multidisciplinary team-based care. She is currently under the guidance of Prof. Xiaolin Wei to enhance her professional knowledge in implementation science and organizational behaviour.

Wenhua Wang

Wenhua Wang is an Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiao Tong University. He received training in public health, policy, and management. Before coming back to China in 2019, he had been the Steinberg Global Health Postdoctoral Fellow at McGill University from 2016 to 2019 and he was also awarded the Health System Impact Fellowship by CIHR in 2019. Funded by China National Natural Science Foundation and the University Youth Talent Program, he is currently leading two projects: one is to capture the construct of high-quality primary health care from a public perspective based on qualitative data in six provinces; the other is to examine the impact of organization management practice on quality of care in primary health care based on quantitative data in four big cities in China. Some of his work has been cited by the World Health Organization and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Yaxin Zhao

Yaxin Zhao, a Ph.D. Candidate at School of Public Health, Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. Research area is health policy and health economics. She has 12 publications in Social Science & Medicine, International journal for equity in health, BMC public health and BMC health services research. Having abundant experience in leading field survey and coordination and participating in 11 academic research programs as a main team member such as China Medical Board and World Bank Project.

Chenglong Wang

Dr. Chenglong Wang‘s research focuses on spatial and environmental health with a focus on health inequities associated with environmental exposures, particularly in migrants. Dr. Wang’s postdoctoral research investigates impacts of air pollution, climate change, greenness, and build environment on various childhood’s respiratory conditions using observational designs and health administrative data, including ICES/UK BioBank under the supervision of Dr. Erjia Ge (in Epidemiology). He also works with Dr. Xiaolin Wei at the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation (IHPME) to extend his area to interventional studies using various longitudinal survey data to promote Implementation Sciences in Environmental Health, aiming for a healthy city.  

Li Wang

Dr. Li Wang (ligrace.wang@utoronto.ca) is an Associate Professor and the Deputy Chair of the Department of Health Management, at the School of Health Services Management, Anhui Medical University, China. Having experiences in both qualitative and quantitative methods, Li Wang is mainly focusing on research about public health policy and management, vaccine confidence and vaccine hesitancy, and she has led or participant in more than 10 research projects such as China National Natural Science Foundation Project, National Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning Project and so on. She has around 30 peer-reviewed publications in this field. Now she is participating Prof. Xiaolin Wei’s research projects about AMR and vaccine confidence.

Fuzhen Guo

Fuzhen Guo, a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Public Health, Capital Medical University, is currently a visiting Ph.D. student in Implementation Science at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her research focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of medical education strategies. She conducted an evaluation of the first physician-scientist training programs in Beijing and is currently working on designing a competency-based training program for clinical research professionals in China. Under the guidance of Professor Xiaolin Wei, she is dedicated to applying implementation science methodologies to advance medical education.
